- Up Your Budget: Urban Treasure Hunt
-
A TravelPost blog reader clued me into the Up Your Budget urban treasure hunt that’s being sponsored by Budget Rental Car. Here’s how it works: you register on the site and check the Up Your Budget blog to read/view the daily clue (you can also have this emailed to you instead). Each week, the clues lead to a specific spot in a specific city. Your job is to decipher the clues and find the designated spot, which will be marked with a sticker. Once you find the sticker, you have to document your sticker sighting by taking a picture of it or video-taping it. Then you call a phone number, leave your info and send in your documented proof of the sticker’s location. And then you wait. If you’re the first to find the sticker, the contest folks will contact you within 72 hours. Okay, so what can one win for being obsessed with this game? Each week, four cities will be in play. So that means four final sticker destinations. If you find a sticker destination first, you win $10,000.
The site’s blog will have clues, tips and some information that could possibly throw you off track to make the game that much more distracting and detrimental to your work productivity level. But come on, it’s $10,000. Screw work. Unless that’s what you make in a week. In that case, can I have some?
As for the name of the contest, the idea is that finding the stickers allows you to win money, which, in turn, allows you to raise your budget and afford something better. Funny, I took it to mean something more like, “Hey, budget! Up yours! I’m sick of you!” (And I mean my own personal budget, not Budget Rental Cars)
Almost all of the promotion for the contest is taking place in the blogosphere (for example, here on Adrants). So this will be a nice little experiment for the marketing folks to see how effective blogs are at transmitting information.
Thanks, Kay!
It’s crazy, in a way, how much cash you could win just from reading blogs these days. For example, this site is on a giveaway jag of its own: $500 for a hotel review.
