Guide to Airline WiFi and Internet Access

Now we thought our Guide to U.S. Airport Wi-Fi was definitive, but the one at the link below actually has the word in the title… IN CAPS. Unlike the guide we published earlier in the fall, this one identifies wi-fi and Internet amenities by airline, not airport. U.S. airlines don’t appear on the list. Unfortunately, the bottom line is that most airlines don’t offer in-flight Internet access. The ones that do generally make it available only on certain routes. For now, we can only dream…

NYC Taxi Fares Increase

coinsThe next time you hop a cab in New York (something I’ll be doing in two weeks), you’ll be paying double the amount for idle time spent sitting in traffic. Yuck. Instead of paying 20 cents per minute in an idle taxi, it’ll cost you 40 cents. According to the story below, the change will increase cab fares by an average of $1 per ride. Hm. Maybe it’s time to take things back underground and start hitting the subway.

Paris Hilton Banned From Gramercy Park Hotel

paris hiltonHotelier Ian Schrager has put the cabash on Paris Hilton and “her ilk” when it comes to his newly revamped Gramercy Park Hotel. Finally, there’s one place on the planet that we random schmoes can get into that Paris can’t. Plus, you gotta love anyone that uses the word “ilk” in casual conversation. It’s like fitting in bretheren or something. Incidentally, Schrager’s hotel isn’t the only location to ban the heiress recently. To find who else has joined the anti-Paris campaign, click the story below.

Hawaii’s Hulihe’e Palace Closes

HawaiiWhile many have emphasized the lack of damage from the recent 6.7 earthquake in Hawaii, there is at least one major attraction that has closed until further notice. Hawaii’s Hulihe’e Palace, an 1838 building made of lava rock, has closed its doors indefinitely. Cracks are now visible in every room, but only three or four of the building’s historic artifacts from early Hawaiian culture were damaged.
