Airline Check-In Baggage Weight Limits

Filed under: Business Travel, Destinations, Gear, Insider Tips, Travel Advice — admin @ 2:20 am

I read recently that Continental Airlines is no longer accepting bags over 70 lbs – even if passengers are willing to pay extra. It prompted me to look up domestic baggage weight limits for major U.S. airlines. Note that several airlines charge $50 just for exceeding the 50 lb weight limit. Good stuff to keep in mind when you pack for travel during the holiday season:

Continental
– Bags over 50 lbs charged $25; bags over 70 lbs not accepted.

Northwest - Bags over 50 lbs charged $25; bags over 70 lbs charged $50; bags over 100 lbs not accepted.

US Airways - Bags over 50 lbs charged $50; bags over 70 lbs charged $80; bags over 100 lbs not accepted. The fees are waived for all military personnel and for First Class passengers with bags weighing 50 to 7o lbs.

United - Bags over 50 lbs charged $50; bags over 100 lbs not accepted.

American - Bags over 50 lbs charged $25; bags over 70 lbs charged $50; bags over 100 lbs not accepted.

Delta - Bags over 50 lbs charged $25; bags over 70 lbs charged $100; bags over 100 lbs not accepted.

Southwest - Bags over 50 lbs charged $25; bags over 70 lbs charged $50; bags over 100 lbs not accepted.

JetBlue - Bags over 50 lbs charged $25; bags over 70 lbs charged $50; bags over 100 lbs not accepted.

Frontier - Bags over 50 lbs charged $50; bags over 100 lbs not accepted.

Airtran - Bags over 50 lbs charged $25; bags over 70 lbs charged $65; bags over 100 lbs not accepted.
