You’d think it would be an airport somewhere in granola-crunch California, but no. The U.S. airport sporting the healthiest victuals is Orlando International Airport, according to the 2006 Airport Food Report from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Actually, the study only looks at the 13 busiest airports in the country, but still. The study also found that 88 percent of all airport restaurants surveyed serve at least one vegetarian entree considered low in fat, high in fiber and free of cholesterol. If only we knew which entrees those were!
Here are the 13 busiest airports in the U.S. ranked according to the healthiness of their restaurant food options:
1. Orlando International Airport
2. Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (tie)
2. San Francisco International Airport (tie)
3. Newark Liberty International Airport
4. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport
5. Chicago O’Hare International Airport
6. Denver International Airport
7. Philadelphia International Airport
8. Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (tie)
8. Los Angeles International Airport (tie)
9. Hartsfield-Jackson Altanta International Airport
