This Is Your Captain Speaking

My name is the Postman, and I'll be the captain of this flight blog.

Travel has changed so much over the years—and even more confounding, it continues to change. You learn how to pack efficiently so you can avoid paying checked-baggage fees, and an airline starts charging to use the overhead space. Or you get accustomed to printing a boarding pass at the airport or at home, and the airline industry moves toward smartphone passes. The only people who travel enough to master the system are road-warrior business travelers, but the industry makes their lives so easy they don't have to worry about keeping up. The rest of us are on our own.

We needn't be: I'm hoping that we can all use this blog to become smarter travelers—to share relevant news and to swap tips and strategies, the same way the TravelPost community already contributes hotel reviews. I'll do the heavy lifting—that's my job—but I don't pretend to know it all. The more that everyone pitches in, the better prepared we'll all be, myself included.

For more travel news and quick hits, follow us at Twitter.com/TravelPost and Facebook.com/TravelPost. And if you have a hot tip you'd rather whisper in my ear, email me at postman@travelpost.com. Think of it as a flight-attendant call button—except I'll actually be pleased that you rang.
