WaPo Weighs In On International Tipping

changePretty good story from last weekend’s Washington Post about tipping in the U.S. and abroad called Tipping and Travel: It’s No Easy Equation. Sadly, the chart the paper mentions in the story is not available online, but the point of the story is one that will hit home with frequent international travelers: tipping customs vary widely from place to place, and knowing them makes you a kinder traveler when in foreign lands.

The WaPo chart isn’t available online, but the BBC has a good rundown of international tipping customs called International Tipping Ettiquette.

Tulum: Mezzanine Lovers Pacakge

mezzanineHipster boutique hotel Mezzanine is offering a Lovers Package that sounds, well, lovely. The four-room waterfront property is a few minutes’ drive from Tulum, Mexico and has its own restaurant and bar. Its small size and no children under 16 policy makes it an intimate, quiet place to relax in Mexico - a far cry from the craziness that is Cancun. Now I’ll stop yammering and tell you about the package.

The Lovers Package is $905 from January through the end of April and $804 between May and mid-December. The package includes three nights accommodation for two (room rates are $170-198 USD depending on the time of year), breakfast each day, a massage for each guest, a three-course meal at the hotel restaurant with a complimentary bottle of wine and a bottle of Champagne on arrival.

TravelPoster Travelling_Kat snapped this pic during a visit to Semuc Champey, a series of pools near Guatemala’s Cahabon River. How gorgeous does that look?
