- Scandal With Israeli Hotel Rates Heats Up
-
Just a little tidbit about Israeli hotels. If you’re a foreigner visiting Tel Aviv or Eilat, you might be getting charged as much as 80 percent more than country residents.
Good to know if you want to haggle, but it’s not an uncommon practice. For example, while it’s certainly not legally sanctioned, many restaurants and shops in Hawaii give discounts to locals while charging tourists “regular” prices.

- W Hotels Plan 2008 Dubai Opening
-
You know you’re trendy when a W Hotel touches down in your city. Not that Dubai needs a W Hotel to prove it. But anyway. Projected to open in 2008, the first W Hotel on Middle Eastern soil will carry on the hotel chain’s tradition in swankitude:
The W Dubai Festival City will offer the “Living Room” experience the brand is known for, creating a place where guests and locals can socialize, leading to outdoor dining and spectacular views of the water. All 250 guest rooms, approximately 30 of which will be suites, will indulge guests with W’s famous beds with feather-top mattress, 350 thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets and goose down comforters.

- Bird Flu: Is It Safe To Travel?
-
The short answer to that question is YES. It’s understandably kind of frightening to hear that Bird Flu is spreading around the world and that the avian virus holds the potential to mutate into a strain harmful to humans. But official sources say that travelers shouldn’t be worried about visiting countries where Bird Flu has been confirmed. To get sick, a person would have to be in close contact with contaminated birds, and, unless your vacation is a particularly unusual one, it’s not likely for the average tourist to be handling sick or dead birds, participating in the extermination of sick birds or playing in bird feces.
That said, if the virus changes and mutates into a strain that can easily be passed from human to human, then we all have major problems. But thus far, that hasn’t happened.

A great reminder that the Luxor is not just a casino in Vegas. TravelPoster johnbutler wrote about his Dec. 30th visit today in this journal post. Want more info on the temple? Check out Wikipedia’s Luxor Temple page or PBS’s Mysteries of the Nile feature on the Luxor.
